Green Summit Success
May 13th, 2009Reedley College has made other colleges “green” with envy with the success of the inaugural Green Summit last month on Friday, May 1. With over thirty-five vendors and fourteen special presentations, plus a slew of sustainable-themed films and videos, there was literally too much to do in a single day. Alviston.com and Alvis Projects, Inc. were busy all day answering questions about efficient building and how to make your own power with photovoltaics. Keith Strong from Pinnacle Plumbing joined us in the booth to talk about tankless water heaters and radiant floor heating. Greg Ashford from Ferguson also joined us and brought with him a new, ultra low-flow toilet, which got a lot of attention as you might imagine.
The day started off with a keynote address by Loren Aiton from Taylor Teter Architects in Fresno. Loren is the President of the local U.S. Green Building Council chapter.
Many of the booths had lines of students waiting to ask questions about the different building materials on display. Others were interested in healthy food, while many found the various “green autos” to be of interest. There were electric-powered scooters to ride, as well as bicycles and even a CNG bus.
It was obvious by the huge turnout that the age of sustainability is upon us and everyone wants to know more. The Reedley College Green Summit committee was pleased with this year’s event and is already planning for next year. Thanks to everyone who participated and we look forward to seeing you next year.
